Kristin + Mark
Kristin & Mark love their Blackthorn kitchen. They first saw Blackthorn’s work at a Self Build show and fell in love with the in-frame solid wood cabinetry immediately. After shopping around and checking out other kitchen suppliers, they were more convinced than ever that they wanted a Blackthorn kitchen. They particularly liked the personal touches and that everything was done by hand. When discussing their project, Kristin recalls appreciating that they weren’t being given a sales pitch but rather “speaking to real people who know their stuff and love what they do”. They were delighted to be able to customise their kitchen, and add personal touches such as the embossed lettering featured above the range and the wording in the traditional larder.
In their design specifications, Mark & Kristin were looking for something timeless; not ultra-modern, but a space in an enduring style with contemporary elements. As a creative person herself, Kristin has a discerning eye for aesthetics, and their kitchen, as with everything else in their beautiful home, has been meticulously thought out.
Kristin and Mark’s solid wood in-frame kitchen is hand-painted in Farrow & Ball Drop Cloth (main units), and Mouse’s Back (island, larder, and integrated fridge unit). Victorian inspired cup and knob handles in polished chrome finish pair beautifully with the Victorian style cornice and mantle. Beading on the cabinet doors and side panels is decorative but simple in form. An integrated bin unit means tidying away is easy and the form and lines of the kitchen remain uncluttered. A Belfast sink adds to the timeless appeal and practicality of this much used central space.
