Our History

We are a family business which began as a furniture workshop, making free standing, bespoke furniture.

One day, one of our customers came in with a set of kitchen plans and after some discussion we took on the project and Blackthorn Kitchens was born. Six weeks later we received the first of many thank you cards for our kitchen. Now we design, manufacture and install handmade kitchens all over Ireland.

Originally started in an old stone barn on the outskirts of Newry, Blackthorn Kitchens quickly outgrew its workspace and moved in to two dedicated premises – a workshop where all cabinetry and woodworking was carried out and a showroom with offices and paintshop. We've since expanded and are now based in a single dedicated premises with offices where we meet with customers and design kitchens and furniture, an adjoining workshop were our cabinetmakers transform timber into bespoke kitchens and furniture, and a paintshop where every project is finished to the highest of standards.

Today over 70% of our business is repeat or recommendation. 

At Blackthorn we specialise in making kitchens and furniture from solid wood. Our customers have a virtually endless choice of timbers to choose from, for example Oak, Ash, Tulipwood, Iroko and more. Our furniture and kitchens at Blackthorn are in-frame (unless otherwise specified by the customer) and are polished or painted by hand to customers’ requirements; we use Little Greene and Farrow & Ball eco friendly paints which are specifically designed for kitchens, furniture and bathroom cabinets.

Work surfaces can be chosen from a wide range of solid wood, marble, granite or man-made materials to any design. As one of the leading kitchen suppliers in Northern Ireland we can offer a vast selection of handles, fittings and accessories to suit customer taste.
